Neighborhood Officer Program

The Department's Neighborhood Officer Program started in 1994. There are currently two neighborhood officer beats in the City. The Central Beat area consists of the Downtown business area and residential areas bordering Cedar, Ives, Pine, and State St. The Eastside Beat area consists of all the area East of the Muskegon River. Each beat officer is responsible for their beat and is expected to take ownership of the area. Beat officers concentrate on quality of life issues in their area. These officers receive additional training to perform their tasks and utilize primarily bicycle and foot patrol. This program has been well received by the citizens and has had great support from the City at large.
