Time Line of the Big Rapids Fire Division

December 8, 1869- The city council creates "Wolverine" Fire Co. No. 1

February 15,1870- The city council repeals ordinance creating Wolverine Fire Co.

February 12, 1871- The city council creates Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1

August 22, 1871- The city council approves creation of Protection Hose Co. No. 1

March 7, 1872- The city council approves creation of Defiance Hose Co. No. 2

August 23, 1873- The city council approves creation of an Independent Hose Co.

On March 25, 1871, the hook and ladder wagon for the fire department was purchased for $150.00 and was manufactured in Grand Rapids, MI.

On August 19, 1871 the city council approved the purchase of 25 common pails for the use of the fire department.
