C.M.E.T.
The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety is a member of the Central Michigan Enforcement Team - a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit involving agencies from the Counties of Mecosta, Newaygo, Montcalm and Ionia. Big Rapids has a larger than normal population of young people because of the presence of Ferris State University. This creates a market for illegal narcotics and where there is a market, there will be dealers. The Department's work with C.M.E.T. has resulted in damaging the drug trade in Big Rapids and removing dealers from the community. Drugs will continue to be a problem for the Community to deal with yet there are hopeful signs in the youngest age groups that educational efforts are reducing the use of drugs among our young people.
Parents are the best drug prevention by being involved in their children's lives and keeping kids focused on positive activities.
If you have information regarding drug activity please call the C.M.E.T. Tip Line at
1-800-342-0406 or call the Department tip line at 231-527-0043.
