General Information
Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sundays and Holidays. Police and Fire service is available 24 hours a day/7 days per week by calling Central Dispatch at 9-1-1 or 231-796-4811 from outside Mecosta County
Rental Inspections: To schedule a rental inspection, dial 231-592-4055 to speak with the Fire Marshall.
Handgun Permits: These can be obtained during regular business hours at the front desk of Public Safety. Safety inspections need to have an appointment made by calling 231-527-0005, and requesting a date and time.
Reports: Reports can be obtained by the involved parties from the front desk at the Department of Public Safety 3 business days after the initial report is made. Please call 231-527-0005 if you have any questions regarding whether a report is ready to be picked up or not. All reports require a fee for reproduction, fees are based on the type of report and the
number of pages to be reproduced.
Freedom of Information: If you wish to obtain a copy of a Police report you are not
a party to, you may do so by filing a Freedom of Information Act request with the Department of Public Safety. This can be done in writing or in person. The Department will charge the cost of reproducing the requested reports. The more specific the request is, the less costly the reproduction is. Please contact 231-527-0005 if you have any questions regarding Freedom of Information Requests.

Training/Community Room: The Public Safety training/community room seats 85 and is available for use by Community Organizations. Please contact 231-527-0005 for scheduling and rate structure.
Tip Line: The tip line was established in 2003, and provides a "hotline" for citizens to provide tips on criminal activity, or receive useful information on traffic, fire, and crime safety. The tip hotline is 231-527-0043.
Station Tours: The Department offers station tours to community groups, schools and day care centers in the area. The tours can be specific to Police or Fire functions or involve the whole department. For more information contact the station at 231-527-0005
